PRIME Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has welcomed the conclusion of the United States' mission in Iraq.

In a statement yesterday, Mr Bainimarama hoped the best for the country which was under the security of US-led forces since 2003.

"On behalf of all Fijians, I welcome the official conclusion to the United States' mission to Iraq - mourning all those lives lost, but hopeful that an independent Iraq will bring a peaceful and prosperous future for all Iraqis," the PM said.

The US officially withdrew with a flag-lowering ceremony in Baghdad on Thursday.

"With more than 1200 Fijian soldiers serving on peace-keeping missions overseas, in Iraq, Sinai and Sudan, we are proud of the role Fiji plays and the sacrifices of our people to support peace and stability throughout the world," Mr Bainimarama said.

US president Barrack Obama had confirmed the country's withdrawal after officially meeting the Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki earlier in the week who reassured the president of Iraq's secure status.

Obama promised a time-line to withdraw from Iraq and he did.

This move is being admired and welcome by all, including a Fiji Citizen who unfortunately is an Illegal leader of his country.

Congratulating Obama's announcement, Bainimarama is quoted as saying "I'm proud of the role Fiji played and the sacrifies of our people to support peace and stability"

How can you send troops to go promote Peace when there is no Peace in your own Jerusalem!

Is Bainimarama himself promoting peace and stability in his own country?

The Illegal regime headed by Bainimarama has this promise for his own country:

  • You will never enjoy PEACE in this country
  • The INSTABILITY will multiply because there is no peace

Valataka na Dina...only time will tell of his intentions.
Bainimarama is a hypcrite, doing things as he pleases when he pleases!
How can he go promote Peace when he is stopping it from happening in his own country?
Read between the lines please......his agenda is now set out to "put on" as we approach the 2014 time-line.
Making friends with the Methodists, civil service pay- rise etc.etc.
While the guy is busy planning out his evil moves, His most reliable advisor(Khaiyum) is taking every opportunity coming his way to 'ensure' key positions are held by his 'own people'

I totally agree with you Siteri Maravou, how can a unelected Leader stand up and speak on behalf of a country when Bainimarama does not have the mandate to run Fiji in the first place. All the decrees he is putting into place to protect him and his cronies are dubious. He first went in to clean up the mess of previous Leaders, now has lost the plot. He is applying band aid solution to try and solve economic problems which the future generation of Fiji would suffer.
